Be Prepared for Thunderstorms and Severe Weather
- Educate yourself on the local community’s emergency warning system for severe thunderstorms. (NBC-DFW-WEATHER, CBS-DFW-WEATHER)
- Discuss thunderstorm safety and lightning safety with all members of your household.
- Decide with members of your household a safe place in your home for members to gather during a thunderstorm.
- Make a list of items to bring inside in the event of a severe thunderstorm.
- Keep trees and shrubbery trimmed and remove damaged branches.
- Protect your animals by bringing them inside your home.
- Family & emergency contact information.
- Copies of personal documents.
- One gallon of water per person in house hold.
- Food items that are non-perishable and easy-to-prepare.
- Medications and medical devices.
- First aid kit
- Flashlight
- Battery-powered (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible)
- Extra batteries
- First aid kit
- Cell phone with chargers
